The Cidade da Luz, a multidisciplinary complex of social assistance, non-profit, that develops ample action in the social and religious scope, was idealized and founded by Jose Medrado in 27 of February of 1996. However, the roots arose in 1978, with the foundation of the Centro Espírita Cavaleiros da Luz.
Currently maintains the Pai João Culture and Art Centre (project to strengthen ties of children and teenagers and their families in situations of personal and social vulnerability); the Carlos Murion Municipal School (elementary school); the Dr. Bezerra de Menezes Outpatient Clinic, as well as working in other segments, through programs aimed at the benefit of the needy community, such as professional workshops, distribution of basic food baskets, baby layouts and others.
The City of Light is maintained by donations from individuals and corporations. Its activities are carried out by volunteers and, in essential services that require continuity, by contracted employees. It is recognized and holds Municipal Public Utility certification granted through law 6.324 / 2003, title of State Public Utility granted by law 7.151 / 1997, Federal Public Utility granted by Ordinance No. 623 of 06/05/2002 of the Ministry of Justice. It also has registration in the National Council of Social Assistance, nº 144/2002, dated May 28, 2002 and Title of Beneficial Entity of the CNAS of nº 289/2004, dated July 28, 2004.
How do I visit Cidade da Luz?
To visit the Institution, contact by phone (71) 3363-5538, and make an appointment with the person in charge. All institutions welcome visitors, as long as it is scheduled beforehand.

The visits to Cidade da Luz occur from Mondays to Saturdays, during business hours:
Morning period: from 8am to 12pm
Evening period: from 2pm to 6pm
*Except at the Pai João Culture and Art Centre (Mondays to Fridays):
Morning: 8am to 11am
Evening: 1pm to 5pm
