To alleviate the suffering of people who are homeless, offering dignity, Cidade da Luz offers shower bath to about 100 people a week, with the support of 15 volunteers, on Wednesdays, due to the significant increase in this population. during the Covid-19 pandemic in Salvador.
The “Busão da Solidariedade” project is a bus transformed into an itinerant bathroom, equipped with individual boxes with showers, including adaptations for people with disabilities, a hair and beard cutting bench, clothes, shoes, body hygiene material and food, all offered free of charge to homeless people. In addition to going out on the streets, the Busão will remain in the Institution’s courtyard, available for people who need it, always attended and welcomed by volunteers.
The project also offers social support such as the purchase of tickets for people from other cities, who arrive in Salvador in search of work, support to get documentation, health assistance providing medical and dental appointment, and exams at the Cidade da Luz Ambulatory. The institution does not receive any support from the Government.
